SPRING 2021

According to the Bureau of Meteorology spring in Greater Melbourne was wetter than average. Both daytime and night-time temperatures were mostly close to average. In terms of mean temperature, it was Melbourne's coolest spring since 2016 and it was the wettest spring for Greater Melbourne since 2011.

10 years ago at SPDL

A new feature of the quarterly newsletter is to look back to past newsletters and see what was happening at SPDL. From the October 2011 newsletter, 10 years ago we were celebrating a significant donation:

β€œOn Thursday 8th August  2011, SPDL supporters and volunteers had dinner in Port Melbourne to witness the handing over of a cheque to fund the purchase of the next DayLinks car. Brian Sutton is a long time Volunteer on Reception at our office and has been a member of the Committee of Management. The Brian J Sutton Foundation has funded several SPDL cars. This dinner was an opportunity to say thank you in a small way."

Brian Sutton, supporter Leslie and Chairperson Geoff at the thank-you function organised by the Committee of Management.

City of Melbourne

SPDL is now able to provide transportation in the City of Melbourne for clients, aligned to the feedback we received in the client survey. This includes return trips to the Alfred Hospital.

If any client would like to attend an appointment or event in the City of Melbourne, please call to book on 9646 6362 and please remember to phone prior to 2pm the day before your trip so that we can accommodate your request.

Covid-19 Boosters

Trips to vaccination appointments

Just a reminder if anyone needs transportation to an appointment for their COVID booster vaccination during the hours of 8:30am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday, please contact us on 9646 6362, hopefully we can assist you to go and have a booster vaccination.

Volunteer Update

On Tuesday 7th December, we celebrated the contribution of our volunteers with a BBQ. Due to the beautiful summer weather here in Melbourne, we had to move the event indoors at the last moment to the South Melbourne Community Centre. It was great to see such a positive turnout with close to 40 in attendance and everyone took the opportunity to catch up.

As Lea and I said at the function, it was very pleasing to see SPDL keep operating throughout 2021 without incident and provide much needed services for our clients in the City of Port Phillip. A huge thank you to our volunteers.

AGM and Annual Report

SPDL successfully held the AGM via zoom on Friday 19th November. Thank you to all our members who attended. Hopefully next year the AGM can be conducted in person!

There was a good discussion around our expansion in the City of Melbourne from members, which was appreciated, and an informative interview with Councillor Heather Consolo about the challenges of the past 12 months and opportunities for 2022 for the City of Port Phillip Council.

The elected office bearers for the next 12 months are,

Committee of Management

Chair Lea Pope
Deputy Chair Alec Tarshis
Treasurer Peter Waddell
Secretary Laura Meagher

Committee members

Rachael Bolton
Mario Galante
Mary Kikas
Stephen Pehm
Frank Ragusa
